Etsy House Tour: Furnished Almost Entirely from Salvation Army

Thursday, January 3, 2013

This quick little house tour caught my eye over on the Etsy blog a little while back because I was so amazed at how curated and collected it looked being that almost the entire home's contents are from the Salvation Army. How awesome is that? Just shows a little hunting and gathering at your local charity stores can really pay off! There are some gems in those stores and I'm out to find them! Before I go, here's the apartment that belongs to Bill and John who design their home around the Japanese term wabi-sabi: the beauty of worn things.

Tip: Try to stay away from buying art prints and buy inexpensive originals, even if they're from artists that are not well known. Any original is far better than a print. I read that somewhere today...can't remember where, but thought it was appropriate for this house where little wall is left bare.

In the interview, Bill and John mention the great deals, in particular, beautiful original art pieces that they've got at auctions. Funny thing is, I was  just reading about the misconceptions of auctions today. Most people (including myself) think that they're more expensive and for a different crowd than the garage-sale-barganistas. Apparently, I've been wrong and steals are to be had at your local auction. I'll have to make it a point to go to the next Alameda Antiques Auction and see if I can snag myself a good deal! Check out more of Bill and John's home and interview here.

    1. Seriously! I love to go thrifting and to charity stores, but my problem is that I have a hard time pulling the trigger!
